Is BACK SURGERY essential?

07/19/08 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

Back pain does not happen overnight. It is a postural dysfunction. It simply means that there is an abnormal curvature of the spine or abnormal positioning of the pelvis.

Everyone has varying degrees of postural imbalances as different muscles grow weaker or stronger, and more flexible or tight in relation to each other. Postural dysfunctions cause increased wear and tear on the joints, muscles, ligaments, and discs in your back. Over time your back weakens until it can no longer properly support itself and nerves in your spinal column are suddenly and painfully pressured or pinched.

There are different types of surgical procedures for back pain. They try to: remove the pressure on the nerve or stabilize the spine.

In case of a herniated disc, the pain is caused since the disc is pressing on a nerve. Your doctor may suggest for a minor surgery to remove the part of the disc that’s pressing on the nerve.

At first thought, this might sound like good news. Take the pressure off the nerve and it’s goodbye pain! Unfortunately it’s not quite that simple. Think of it like the wheels on a car. When your car gets out of alignment, your tires wear unevenly. The areas on the tire receiving extra pressure due to the imbalance wear away much faster than normal. Left unchecked, a sudden catastrophic blowout may be in your future.

If you replace the tires, but leave the alignment uncorrected, it won’t be long until you have the same problem with the new tires. Until you fix the cause of the problem, the symptoms will keep recurring.

The same thing applies to your spine. No matter how many surgeries you have, until you correct the underlying cause of the imbalances weakening your back, you will continue experiencing spinal degeneration — and as time goes on, more pain.

This is why the back surgery will be an extreme approach in dealing with non-trauma related back pain. Besides the fact that spinal surgery alone will not correct muscle imbalances, there are other issues to contend with during recovery that can be counterproductive to your pain reduction goals.
Post-surgical recovery is an area too frequently glossed over during the decision making process leading to an operation. You will want to consider the risks and difficulties of recovery as part of an informed decision.

Following back surgery, your body will go through a normal recovery process including significant pain and awkward movement for even simple daily tasks. Because your body is contorting itself to avoid pain during this recovery phase, additional stress is placed on other areas of your body — particular above and below the site of surgery and in other joints such as the hips or sacroiliac (SI).

All surgeries produce scar tissue. As your body heals there is a real possibility that the scar tissue itself can build up to the point that it makes contact with the nerve, causing as much pain as if the disc itself were still putting pressure on the nerve.

Fortunately most back pain sufferers can get relief without resorting to surgery. By identifying and addressing the underlying muscle imbalances and postural dysfunctions behind their back pain, many back pain sufferers can get better results without surgery and avoid the inherent risks.

In fact, if you’re still considering surgery, I’d recommend finding a qualified therapist first and ask the same five questions above. Using this information, give yourself 60 days to work on stretching and strengthening before making a final decision on surgery. You stand a strong chance of eliminating your back pain altogether — with no surgery and much lower medical bills!

One final word on surgical outcomes. Back pain surgery is the only category of surgery that actually has a clinical term for failure — Failed Back Surgery Syndrome. Unless the underlying causes of your back pain such as muscle imbalances are addressed, chances are high that you won’t experience long-term pain relief (I define long-term as more than five years).

Magnet Therapy—Does it Work?

07/15/08 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

Magnetic products have been regularly being claimed that they could help people suffering from fibromyalgia, lupus, sciatica, herniated discs, asthma, bronchitis, cataracts, chronic fatigue syndrome, colitis, diverticulitis, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and more than 50 other health conditions.

Leading producers of Magnetic products in USA have claimed that its magnetic sleep pads or other products: (a) are effective against cancers, diabetic ulcers, arthritis, degenerative joint conditions, or high blood pressure; (b) could stabilize or increase the T-cell count of HIV patients; © could reduce muscle spasms in persons with multiple sclerosis; (d) could reduce nerve spasms associated with diabetic neuropathy; (e) could increase bone density, immunity, or circulation; or (f) are comparable or superior to prescription pain medicineThe “magnetized water” or other products have been claimed to be useful against cancer, diseases of the liver or other internal organs, gallstones, kidney stones, urinary infection, gastric ulcers, dysentery, diarrhea, skin ulcers, bed sores, arthritis, bursitis, tendinitis, sprains, strains, sciatica, heart disease, circulatory disease, arthritis, auto-immune illness, neuro-degenerative disease and allergies.

Researches have been conducted at different Medical Colleges in USA. The results (Claims) have been found to hold no ground:

• Researchers at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine have reported negative results in a study of patients with heel pain. Over a 4-week period, 19 patients wore a molded insole containing a magnetic foil, while 15 patients wore the same type of insole with no magnetic foil. In both groups, 60% reported improvement, which suggested that the magnetic foil conveyed no benefit.

• Researchers at the VA Medical Center in Prescott, Arizona conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study involving 20 patients with chronic back pain. Each patient was exposed to real and sham bipolar permanent magnets during alternate weeks, for 6 hours per day, 3 days per week for a week, with a 1-week period between the treatment weeks. No difference in pain or mobility was found between the treatment and sham-treatment periods.

• Researchers at the Mayo Clinic compared the effects of wearing magnetic or sham-magnetic cushioned insoles over an 8-week period by 101 people with heel pain and found no difference between the treatment and control groups.

Magnets have also been claimed to increase circulation. This claim is false. If it were true, placing a magnet on the skin would make the area under the magnet become red, which it does not. Moreover, a well-designed study that actually measured blood flow has found no increase. The study involved 12 healthy volunteers who were exposed to either a 1000-gauss magnetic disk or an identically appearing disk that was not magnetic. No change in the amount or speed of blood flow was observed when either disk was applied to their arm.

The magnets were manufactured by Magnetherapy, Inc, of Riviera Beach, Florida, a company that has been subjected to regulatory actions.

There is no scientific basis to conclude that small, static magnets can relieve pain or influence the course of any disease. In fact, many of today’s products produce no significant magnetic field at or beneath the skin’s surface.

Qigong: True Healing Miracles

07/13/08 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

What if the fastest, most direct route to healing existed right under our noses–literally? It does; it’s our breath, bringer of oxygen, channel of life energy and source of true miracles. Your breath is so powerful that it can, in fact, send your body humming like a car engine. Besides delivering oxygen, the breath channels a powerful force in the body, an energy called Qi. This Qi energy causes the body to “vibrate,” increasing organ function, balancing metabolism and promoting healing.

Your physical body is overlapped by a spiritual energy body and this is the one that vibrates and it is also the body we are seeking to ‘activate’ in Qigong. Everyone has Qi; however some people can hold 10-1000 times the amount of a normal person. The term ‘activate’ refers to the Qigong principle of filling up the storage center (Dan Tien) with Yang Qi thereby increasing the flow of Qi to such a degree that ones Qi can be seen as cobalt blue vapors rising from the skin. This cobalt blue substance is the universal color of Yang Qi and its cultivation leads to higher levels of body function.

But, is this the limit of Qigong? I once heard a man say Qigong was metaphysical, but not spiritual. Is cultivating the living energy of God not a spiritual practice? And how does any of this relate to creating miracles?

What is a True Miracle?

A miracle can be defined as any event that is so statistically unlikely, it cannot be explained by natural laws, or even attributed to random chance. For example, say John Smith, a soccer superstar, tears a tendon during a big game. Physical law dictates that a torn tendon takes considerable time to heal, perhaps several months. Even if one had profound levels of Qi, this kind of injury would require many concurrent sessions and considerable time to heal. Now, if the torn tendon healed instantly during halftime while John was on the sidelines, this would be a miracle. The statistical probability of instantaneous healing is so remote; it appears to defy the natural laws. However, after years of clinical work with nearly a dozen renowned Qigong masters, shamans and healers of many faiths,
I have personally witnessed two different types of energy healing:
1) Qi Healing 2) Miraculous Healing.

Qi healing is an ancient practice based on Qigong breathing disciplines. It can be used to treat almost any illness, physical or emotional, from asthma and migraines to depression and anxiety. It is based on the Qigong theory that all around us there is living “Qi Plasma” that permeates every square inch of the universe and throughout all of existence. During Qi healing, the practitioner uses specialized breathing techniques to first absorb Qi and then “pressurize” Qi in his or her Dan Tien, the body’s storage area for Qi, located behind the belly button. Qigong breathing practices create tremendous heat in the body, which builds up in the hands. The practitioner then places his or her hands on or near the person being treated, transmitting the Qi. People who receive this intense dose of energy usually have some immediate response. They may gently sway or undulate as the Qi energy enters their cores; some people will laugh, cry or have what they later call a “spiritual experience.”

As powerful as the Qi Healing experience is, it’s a process; several sessions are usually required to completely heal a serious problem. Instantaneous healing is extremely rare. Even so, it sometimes happens, especially with particularly powerful healers and between people who share an especially strong connection–say, a husband and wife, or a parent and child. These kinds of healings, which defy even the laws of Qi, are what I call miraculous healing.

Miraculous Healing Example
High-level Qigong can manifest true miracles from God or the ultimate energy. Using Qi to perform healing is not the same as harnessing this ultimate energy. Miraculous healing describes an instantaneous healing of body, mind or spirit; in miraculous healing, a deep and lasting cure is affected. The healing is complete and immediate, and never returns. Miraculous healing begins with the same breathing mechanics and energy flow principles, but it also requires the mental assent by the patient. When one is willing to heal, when one has faith, miraculous healing can begin.

Here’s a true story to illustrate. A few years ago, my wife injured her knee in a ski accident. The ski patrol carried her on a snow mobile down the mountain; when I met her at the bottom, she looked up in agony and said, “I need to go to the hospital!” Her knee was swollen with visible internal bruising.

It was a reasonable request. Even so, spirit moved me to insist she sleep first, before going to the hospital. The next morning, she woke up and sat up on the edge of the bed. When she tried to stand up, she winced horribly in pain. I asked her if she was willing to let me try Qi healing on her knee. She agreed, both reluctant and hopeful.
I practiced Qigong for an hour and returned to the room when my hands were fully charged with energy. But instead of using my usual approach, I was guided to try something different. I stood beside the bed and asked her, “Do you believe you can be healed, totally and completely, on this very day?” She looked doubtful, but said “Yes.” I placed my hands over her knee and began practicing my usual method of focused Qigong breathing. The pulsation between my hands and her knee became very intense; after about 20 minutes, she said, “I can feel a strong current flowing from your palms.” Sensing the opportunity I asked her again: “Do you think it is possible to heal completely and totally on this very day?” She smiled and her eyes filled with tears. “Yes,” she said. “I do believe it is possible.”

You probably know how the story ends. For 30 minutes I held my hands over her knee while doing concentrated breathing reciting a silent prayer. Suddenly, she heard a clicking sound and exclaimed, “I just heard my knee click!” I slowly pulled my hands away and asked her to try walking. She did, without pain. I then asked her to jump up and down! Tearful, she jumped repeatedly without pain. In that moment I realized that something different had happened. Her knee looked normal without even so much as a bruise. She was totally healed.
Summary on True Healing Miracles

Since this first miraculous healing experience, I have seen many other cases. The process is always the same; the patient doesn’t believe at first that total and instant healing is possible. But when he or she feels the strength of the Qi, a mental door opens up. Disbelief is suspended, faith enters and healing begins. If the words of Jesus are true, “Your faith alone has healed you,” then we can see why Qi healing is so important. The powerful energy sensations the patient feels at the first contact of Qi energy provide the foundation for faith! Qigong brings in the energy, but the mind of the patient brings in the miracle.

And spontaneous or miraculous healing isn’t limited to physical ailments. It’s equally, if not more, powerful in addressing many mental and emotional ailments, including depression, anxiety, insomnia and addictions. Because it works with energy and operates in the spiritual realm, Qi healing can quickly and completely heal people with these and other disturbances. Even when years of psychotherapy or behavior modification have failed, Qi healing can effect lasting change.

Perhaps not surprisingly, there appears to be power in numbers; miraculous healing tends to occur more frequently in group setting, probably because of the sheer amount of energy available. In China, people frequently gather in groups of tens of thousands inside stadiums to practice qigong. These events are known for miraculous healings–the kind where paralyzed people get up out of wheel chairs and walk. I believe it is the sheer size of the group energy field that allows this to take place; when many people are gathered together in faith, with the intention of healing, it’s impossible not to create dramatic change. The greatest miracles occur when our focus is united in faith, and Qi energy exponentially enhances this process. God breathes life into every particle of the universe; the miracle truly is right under your nose.

Simple Pushup helps weightloss

07/11/08 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

The push up exercise has been a favorite of the military, police, football and fitness crowd pretty much since time began. Most often when push ups are called for, someone did something wrong and push ups for some reason seem to be the answer. While it is quite fun as an instructor to dish out the push up like candies to a fat kid, push ups should also be used in your body conditioning workout because they flat out work wonders.

Used correctly the push up is an awesome exercise for conditioning as well as strength gains. The reason for this is the scalability of the exercise and the lack of equipment needed to get great results.
When we talk about scalability of the push ups exercise, we are talking about how to start of with an easy version and escalate into a more advanced version, as the body is able to cope. This is the basis of all training for results. Continually imposed increasing demands on the body.

On the easy end of the spectrum of push up exercises we have the standard military pushup. If this is not attainable, you can always do them on your knees first. Once the standard push up exercise can be performed easily, it is only a matter of elevating the feet bit by bit to increase the resistance.

Before you move on to the more advanced versions, make sure that your standard push ups are perfect. This means touching the floor with the body as a solid straight line. Full depth and full extension in a controlled manner. No chopped reps here!

The biggest mistakes made when doing the push up exercise are:

Reaching for the floor with the head before body.

Letting the belly hit first.

Having the elbows out very wide and high by the head.

Jacking the bum up like in the yoga downward dog at the top.

Not touching at the bottom.

Chopping your reps short from full extension.

Dive bombing - Coming down and forward on an angle.
Once you can do 50 honest, strict and controlled push ups, it’s time to move on.

On the other end of difficulty scale there is the handstand push up. This particular version of the push up has varying degrees of difficulty also. The holy grail of push up exercises is the handstand push up unsupported. No wall, no spotter, just you, the air and a whole lot of athletic ability.

For those that state a lack of equipment as a barrier to getting stronger, bigger and more athletic, the handstand push up exercise is a clean crisp slap in the back of the head. It’s gymnastics answer to the expensive, less functional and less effective midnight infomercials about the “wonder-whatever".

Here is a simple workout that will get you puffing and pumping based around the standard push up exercise.

Do eight sets of as many push ups as you can in 20 seconds. Rest only 10 seconds between each of the eight sets. Keep it strict and enjoy!

Strengthen Calf Muscles

07/07/08 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

This exercise of qi gong focuses on exercising the lower body, particularly the legs. The bouncing motion used will greatly strengthen the thighs and calves as the body weight is lifted up and down. The up and down motion also requires the hips, abdomen and lower back to exert effort. Over time, performing this exercise will greatly strengthen and tone the calf muscles, giving them excellent definition.

Plus, the Achilles tendon is stretched out, helping to improve flexibility and mobility in the feet and ankle, which are also put to work in performing this exercise. If you feel that you need additional resistance, you can add ankle weights to the legs. The exercise will also stretch and lengthen the spine, helping to tone and relax the back muscles. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this exercise is believed to activate the body’s natural immune system defenses so that many diseases are removed from the body.

From the starting position, called ‘wu ji,’ lift and move the right foot forward so that it rests about one foot ahead of the left foot. Do not put the right foot flat upon the floor – instead, put the toes on the floor, the heel lifted up off of the floor. However, don’t put all of your body weight on the right foot, but keep it on the left foot. Make sure that your left knee remains bent. At this point, the arms should be placed next to the hips and the hands should be flexed at the wrist so that the palms are facing down.

Gently bend both of your knees, moving your body down. Don’t bend at the waist, but simply bend the knees so that the entire body is shifted downwards. Press the palms down as if you are trying to push them to the floor. The key to the exercise is that as the body moves down, centered over the left leg, the heel of the right foot lifts up off of the ground. Then, as you slowly straighten back up, the heel of the right foot moves back to the ground. The left foot should be kept flat on the floor during this motion.

You will feel a great deal of stretching in your front calf muscle and thigh muscle, and your back leg will be working in its entirety in order to hold your balance during the exercise. Control your breathing so that you are inhaling as you move the body up and exhaling as you move the body down.

This position can be rather strenuous, so if you can’t do the up and down movement at first, start by simply keep your weight on your back leg and flex the forward heel upwards and downwards. You will still feel a significant stretch in your calf. As you grow stronger, you may then try to add the up and down movement.

The movement will deepen as you improve, but be sure that you don’t bend your back leg too far. Your left knee should not be bent so that it extends past your toes. After eight repetitions of the stretch, return to the starting position. Then start on the left side by extending your left foot forwards and repeating the series of stretches.

Stem Cell Enhancers

07/07/08 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

Stem cells have the remarkable potential to develop into many different cell types in your body.

The product is a natural stem cell enhancer. It is derived from a plant. It stimulates stem cells in your bone marrow to travel throughout your body to support optimal organ and tissue function.

It means, the herbal based natural product urges stem cells to go where they are needed most in your body and repair any damage.

I had heard about the controversy over embryonic stem cells, but this product has nothing to do with that. This is all about stimulating the natural release of *your own* adult stem cells.

This was getting interesting.

Dr Joe Vitale tried this product - not for a day or a week, but for a month. It worked.

The company suggests you take two capsules in the morning. But
Dr Vitale wanted speedier results, so he took two in the AM and two in the PM.

Nothing happened the first two weeks, but he took it as an experiment, to see what would happen, if anything, and of course hope for the best.

He got better than the best.

At the two week mark he woke up one day and virtually all his health concerns were gone.

His asthma, allergies, anxiety attacks and aches from weight lifting had gone. Even his food sensitivies began to disappear.

He was still skeptical, but he wanted to investigate the product even deeper. So he got in touch with the scientist who had co-discovered the product. He’s a brilliant man from France, and was very generous with his time. He pointed out most of what he wanted to know was on the company’s website,

http://mrfire.stemtechbiz.com

He went and looked. He saw the information, digested it, did a little more research on stem cell enhancers, and decided this was the health product for him to endorse. It’s called the SQOLA and its freeee.

So if you’re skeptical, but still hoping something will help you with your health, use the SQOLA to document your progress over four to twelve weeks. It’s explained at -

http://mrfire.stemtechhealth.com/sqola/answer.aspx

Finally, after researching the company and all the quack alert sites that blow the whistle on dubious claims, Dr. Vitale joined the company as a distributor. (For only $25.)

He thinks the marketing approach of having people who believe in the product actually profit from telling others about it is wise. It’s a win-win. You can join, too, under him, by going to –

http://mrfire.stemtechbiz.com/bus_opp_sub.aspx

Dr Vitale is not a medical doctor or scientist. He does not believe this is a magic pill that will cure everything, including emotional problems. But he has shared his story with you because he knows how important your health is. Without it, you can’t enjoy life or accomplish much.
