Research out of Otago and Oxford Universities in New Zealand indicates that having LASIK surgery can lead to permanent problems with vision over the long term.
More specifically, it appears that having laser surgery for near-sightedness (myopia) may lead to excessive glare, haze, and blurred vision as people enter their 7th and 8th decades of life.
What follows is a simplified explanation of why researchers have come to this conclusion:
During LASIK surgery for near-sightedness, the tissues of the eye are cut and vaporized to flatten the central region of the cornea.
The potential problem with flattening the cornea is abnormal movement of the cells of the cornea.
Normally, the cells of the cornea move in a way that results in the formation of a pigmented line (called the Hudson-Stahli line) that forms somewhere below the pupil. This pigmented line tends to thicken with age, and can eventually begin scattering incoming light, which can lead to glare, haze, and blurred vision. But because this line is usually formed below the pupil, it doesn’t tend to cause significant problems with vision, even when the line thickens as a part of the normal, degenerative changes that occur over many years.
After LASIK surgery, the movement of the cells of the cornea are affected in a way that increases the chance of the Hudson-Stahli line forming in front of the pupil. In such cases, as this line begins to thicken with age, glare, haze, and blurred vision become inevitable.At this point, it is impossible to predict how many recipients of LASIK surgery are going to experience this problem as they get older.
Given the lack of data on potential long term dangers of having LASIK surgery, I think it’s wise to avoid it, at least for now.
You can improve your vision without surgery by taking good care of your overall health. When I underwent a two-week water fast back in 1999, I noticed significant improvement in my vision - not enough for me to throw away my glasses, but enough for me to realize that emotional stress, lack of physical rest, and sub-optimal food choices can all contribute to poor vision.

Meditation is said to be a great stress reducer.
The first significant studies, in the ’60s and ’70s, proved that meditators could get themselves so deep into trances that they wouldn’t react when they were prodded and burned. Another study showed that meditators, unlike marksmen, didn’t flinch at the sound of a gunshot. And a Harvard Medical School professor studied 36 meditators and found that they used 17% less oxygen, lowered their heart rates by three beats a minute, and increased their theta brain waves – the ones that appear right before sleep – without slipping into actual sleep. A later Harvard test showed that the EEGs of meditators were significantly different than those of a control group.
Later studies became more sophisticated with brain imaging. One study showed that the brain doesn’t shut off when it meditates but rather blocks information from coming into a certain portion of it – the parietal lobe. Another study showed that meditation slows blood flow to all portions of the brain but the limbic system, which generates emotions and memories and regulates heart rate, respiratory rate, and metabolism.
For 30 years, meditation research has told us that it works beautifully as an antidote to stress,” says Daniel Goleman, author of “Destructive Emotions.” “But what’s exciting about the new research is how meditation can train the mind and reshape the brain.” Tests using imaging techniques suggest that it can actually reset the brain, changing the point at which a traffic jam, for instance, sets the blood boiling.

People with diabetes can help keep their bodies healthy by simply adding a dash of spice to their diet, new research reports. In a study, diabetics who incorporated one gram – equivalent to less than one-quarter teaspoon – of cinnamon per day for 40 days into their normal diets experienced a decrease in levels of blood sugar, cholesterol and blood fats. And for people with diabetes, the less of those substances in the body, the better. Type 2 diabetes arises when the body loses sensitivity to insulin, a hormone that shuttles the sugars from food into body cells to be used for energy. As a result, the amount of sugar, or glucose, in the blood remains high, leading to fatigue and blurred vision. Over the long term, excess blood glucose can increase the risk of heart disease, kidney failure and blindness. The current findings suggest that a small amount of cinnamon can help protect diabetics from these and other potential complications of their condition, study author Dr. Richard A. Anderson of the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center in Maryland told Reuters Health. Diabetics could add a dash of cinnamon to their morning servings of coffee, orange juice or cereal, Anderson noted. “You can also make a cinnamon tea by simply boiling water with stick cinnamon,” he suggested. Anderson noted that cinnamon may also help stave off the onset of type 2 diabetes in people at risk of the condition. He added that cinnamon contains some substances that can be toxic in high amounts, so people should be sure not to get too much of a good thing. “Certainly, a gram per day is not a high amount,” he reassured. During the study, Anderson and his colleagues asked 60 people with type 2 diabetes to consume 1, 3, or 6 grams of cinnamon each day for 40 days, or the equivalent amount of wheat flour, as a placebo. Both the cinnamon and wheat flour were administered in capsule form. Reporting in the journal Diabetes Care, Anderson and his team found that all cinnamon-takers experienced a drop in blood levels of glucose, fats and cholesterol by up to 30 percent. No change was seen in the people taking placebo capsules. Anderson explained that cinnamon contains compounds that help make insulin more efficient, improving the hormone’s ability to bring glucose to the cells that need it. As an added bonus, cinnamon contains virtually no calories, Anderson said, allowing diabetics to add zest to their meals without adding to their waistlines. Cinnamon contains less than 3 calories per gram, “negligible in the total dietary intake,” Anderson said. Previous research has shown that cinnamon appears to help fat cells recognize and respond to insulin. In test tube and in animal studies, the spice increased glucose metabolism by about 20 times.

I had very bad reputation of SNORING. Usually no body liked to share a room with me during my college days because I never allowed my partners to sleep. I took it lightly but after getting married, my wife used to complain which forced me to pay an urgent attention. Now my wife has stopped complaining. Certainly she has not adjusted with my snoring; rather I have improved upon my snoring problems. My snores are very mild so she finds it a meditation mantra.
SNORING is normally caused when the airways in the nose and throat get narrower during sleep therefore the breath during inhaling and exhaling needs little force to push it. The air vibrates the loose tissues at the back of the throat causing sound which we call – snores. The snores could be mild or severe.
The snorers are continuously being asked to reduce snoring but it cannot be controlled voluntarily. There could be number of reasons for a person to snore. It could be because of breathing problems like Asthma, sinus, or bad throat. Habitual smoker, obese or middle-aged people have narrower throats, therefore once the person sleeps the snoring starts.
The snore disturbs the sleep of the partner but it becomes more disturbing when the person himself cannot sleep properly. Snoring can affect both the physical and social intimacies of a relationship. The constant sleep disruption and excessive tiredness caused by noisy snoring often creates problems. Sleep partners of heavy snorers awaken over twenty times per hour, which severely cuts into the quality and quantity of their sleep.
Many partners of snorers decide to sleep in separate rooms, and the resulting lack of bedtime chatting and physical intimacy can lead to a strained relationship. The snorer often becomes isolated and frustrated about a problem they seemingly have no control over.
In extreme cases, snoring can cause reduced oxygen flow to the brain, which can lead to Type II Diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension, stroke, and heart disease.

# Pranayam exercises have been giving very good results.:
i) Deep breathing-inhale and exhale for two minutes,
ii) Inhaling from left nostril and exhaling from the right nostril. Then inhaling from right nostril and exhaling from left nostril. In either case keep the other nostril pressed by index finger/thumb. This exercise has to be repeated continuously for three minutes. See the results after 30 days, there are all chances of the snoring getting milder.
#If you sleep on your back, you are probably exacerbating your snoring problem - in this sleeping position, the soft tissues in the back of your throat (including your tongue) are more prone to slide backwards, blocking your airway. If you are a mild snorer, switching to sleeping on your side might cure your snoring altogether.
# An even better solution is to elevate the head of your bed four inches, which may make breathing easier and encourage your tongue and jaw to move forward. Elevating the entire head of the bed is better than using a pillow, which can crimp the neck and contribute to snoring. Placing rolled up towels under the head of the mattress is an easy way to change the angle of the mattress.
# Having a stuffy nose makes inhalation difficult, which in turn creates a vacuum in your throat, and noisy breathing. In fact, people who seldom snore often find themselves snoring quite loudly when suffering from allergies or a cold.
# Avoid high-fat dairy milk products or soy milk products before sleeping. Non-skim milk products and soy milk products, because of their thickness, can keep mucus from draining properly. The result is mucus retained in the throat, which can lead to snoring.

I particularly like your addition, and the added meditation has really helped me to connect with my inner teacher.
For the year, while in school I didn’t have time to go to yoga classes, or do physical activities, but 15 minutes doing the five rites rejuvenates me, and people often ask me what I do “to be in such good shape". The only thing I can attribute to the muscle tone and definition, increased stamina and flexibility is the five rites; I haven’t done anything else. Most important steps to reduce your risk of developing diabetes.
1. Regularly engage in some form of exercise that builds and/or maintains your muscle mass. Muscle tissue has significant capacity to store excess blood sugar in the form of glycogen. Simply put, the more muscle you have, the more capacity you have to “soak up” excess blood sugar and maintain a healthy blood sugar level. This is one of the biggest benefits to doing some resistance training on a regular basis.
2. Be active! The more you move your body throughout the day, the more sugar your cells need to burn up to produce energy.
3. Reduce or eliminate your intake of the following most common, sugar-rich foods in today’s grocery stores:
o Pop (soda)
o Doughnuts
o Pastries
o Conventional store-bought cookies, cakes, and muffins

Maintain your eyes wide open looking straight forward. Wait for 15seconds, raise your body back. Repeat this exercise three times. This exercise will improve the working of your pancreas.
